About The Artist 

Suzy Adams calls The Black Hills of South Dakota home.  She is a photographer whose work reflects a lifelong passion for capturing the soul of nature and animals. A photographer for nearly three decades, Suzy’s journey has taken her from the American West to far-flung corners of the globe. Her work is a blend of stunning powerful moments that reveal the spirit of the subjects she photographs. Suzy’s journey into the world of photography is as inspiring as the photos she has taken.

 

Early Life and Initial Interest in Photography

• Born and raised with a fascination for the natural world, Suzy Adams found herself drawn to photography. However, her passion for the art form goes much deeper, tracing back to  when a family friend, professional photographer Roger Short, influenced her early interest in the craft. Shortly after her brother Bill gifted Suzy with his 35mm camera and equipment.  And her phtography journey began.
• As a mother of four, Suzy balanced family life while nurturing her love for photography. Two of her daughters went on to become professional photographers, a testament to Suzy’s influence.

My Mission

Suzy has always believed that her photographs tell a story. Her ability to immerse herself in her work and capture the beauty of the world around her is driven by a deep sense of connection to nature and a desire to preserve those powerful moments for future generations.

 

Life & Philosophy

• A dedicated dog lover, Suzy’s personal life has always been rooted in her love for animals. She has kept her life simple, alloing  her to embark on her global photography adventures.
• Suzy has always believed that her photographs tell a story. Her ability to immerse herself in her work and capture the beauty of the world around her is driven by a deep sense of connection to nature and a desire to preserve those powerful moments for future generations.

Career and Photography Journey:

• Suzy’s photography journey began in earnest when she began to travel the world more extensively to pursue her passion.

Exploring the American West: 

• Always enamored with the American West, Suzy found inspiration in places like the National Parks. She would often describe these landscape as her “outdoor office,” visiting several times a year to photograph the changing seasons, wildlife, and epic vistas.

The Black Hills Photography Club:

•  A member since 2017, Suzy has shared her work with like-minded photographers, gaining insight and inspiration from the community.

Photography Safaris and International Travel:

• Her first overseas photography trip took place in 2017, when she traveled to India. From there, her travels took her to Africa, where she experienced two photography safaris, and to Alaska, where she had the rare opportunity to ”walk with the bears” as she referred to this experience of photographing bears in their natural habitat. She has captured moments that reflect the diverse cultures of Vietnam and Cambodia

Focus on Animals and The Raw Beauty Of Nature:

• Suzy’s photography is centered around two main themes: the soul of animals and the raw beauty of landscapes. Whether she’s photographing the majestic landscapes of Yellowstone or the intimate portraits of wild animals, Suzy’s work tells stories that go beyond the surface.
• Her passion for animals is reflected in her photographs of bears in Alaska, lions in Africa, and the diverse wildlife of the American West. For Suzy, photography is not just about capturing images; it’s about capturing the essence of the subject.
